In Shahadah we said ” There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad (saw) is God’s messenger” and we profess that too in our payer during tahyat. So did Rasulullah said the same thing when he professed Shahadah and during his prayer or solat.
The Shahadah, it should be remembered is not just a formality, but is a declaration of one’s faith. The Prophet (pbuh) declared his faith in the same words as he taught his followers to do so. What may seem strange is why would the Prophet need to declare his faith in his own prophethood. However, it is clear from the Qur’an that a prophet’s responsibility precedes that of all other’s not only to believe in the revelation that God sends to him but to declare this belief to others as well. This is because of the unshakeable faith and trust in God and His promises that is required from the prophet.
