Question
Salam brother,
Some time ago, I stressed my understanding regarding the verse 121 of surah Al An’am–“Eat not of (meats) on which Allah’s name hath not been pronounced: that would be impiety…”–with you (in several questions).
I was wrong in my reasoning (as I understand it know), and you were correct that the referred verse directs to pronounce the name of Allah (swt) at the time of slaughter.
The verse 138 of Surah Al An’am made me understand this – “…further, there are cattle forbidden to yoke or burden, and cattle on which, (at slaughter), the name of Allah is not pronounced…”. The Arabic wording of pronouncing Allah (swt)’s name are the same in this verse as in the verse 121 – and in this verse (138), pronouncing of Allah (swt)’s name (without any doubt to my mind) is at the time of slaughter.
I wanted to write this to you because my previously false reasoning is posted in my questions on your web site, and I am concerned that I may mislead someone. So I kindly request you to post this on your web site as well.
Answer
May the Lord guide us all to the path of His liking.
Thank you for writing to me.
