Is my wife entitled to receive the remainder of the Meh’r upon my death? There is a large amount that has never been paid, but my parents claim that because she did not claim that money when we were married, she is not entitled to it at my death, only if I divorce her.
Meh’r is the right of a woman and the whole of it must be paid, irrespective of whether she demands payment or not, except if the wife expressly relinquishes her right and absolves her husband of the responsibility.
In case a person has not paid the promised Meh’r to his wife, during his life, then, at the time of his death, the amount should be considered as a loan and should be paid to his wife prior to the execution of any will or the distribution of any shares.
I hope this helps.
