Financial Requirements for the Provision/Upkeep of Adequate Physical Infrastructure at Al-Mawrid

Al-Mawrid – Institute of Islamic Sciences was initiated in the year 1983. In its initial stages, the operations of Al-Mawrid were restricted to one or a few rooms in the residence of its founder, Javed Ahmad Ghamidi. In the year 1991, a house in the locality of Model Town, Lahore was acquired on rent to house the growing requirements of the Institute. Nevertheless, two years before the turn of the century, the rented area became inadequate for the purpose and, subsequently, the Board of Trustees raised sufficient funds to finance (over Rs. 10 million) the purchase of a double-storied house with two big halls – one on each story – and eight above average-sized rooms.

Al-Mawrid is now housed at 51-K, Model Town Lahore, the house that was purchased by its Board of Trustees. However, because this house was not originally built to meet the specific requirements of a modern institute of research and education, significant alterations and additions have to be continually made to its internal structure, bringing it inline with the requirements of the institute housed in it. Some of the major projects for which significant amounts of financial resources had to be spent include:

·          Installation of higher capacity power supply cables for the institute;

·          Installation of networking cables for computer resource sharing within the institute;

·          Installation of Telephone extension cables;

·          Conversion of lower Hall into a library-cum-seminar room and furnishing it;

·          Air-Conditioning of most of the lower floor and part of the upper floor;

·          Alteration of faulty staircase (considered dangerous due to its original style);

·          Strengthening of Lower-Hall ceiling as advised by expert civil engineers and architects;

·          Semi-permanent wooden division of rooms into cabins for research and academic personnel;

Financial resources to the tune of Rs. 2.5 million have already been spent on the foregoing renovations/alterations/additions. Nevertheless, according to estimations a similar amount is further required to complete the work of providing for sufficient physical infrastructure and for the immediate physical upkeep of the building.

Details of updated future requirements are provided on the attachment. For the purpose of an accurate presentation of these requirements, the attached document shall be continually and immediately (within 24 hours) updated to present the latest and up-to-date picture of these requirements.

All those who wish to make a Sadaqah e Jaariyah (perpetuating charity) in any of these projects may do so by contributing any amount through checks, bank drafts or pay orders to the credit of 'Al-Mawrid', which may be sent to:
