Memorizing The Qur'an
I was wondering about something
concerning memorizing the Qur’an. A brother told me recently that it was
expected in the Prophet’s time that everyone memorize the Qur’an. Is
this true?
If so it doesn’t make sense
because why then would Hadhrat Abu
Bakr and Hadhrat Umar have asked Hadhrat
Zaid bin Thabit to collect the Qur’an if they already had it memorized?
Should everyone be a Hafiz[1],
is that the Sunnah of the Prophet?

Memorizing the Qur’an cannot be termed as a Sunnah of the Prophet neither can it be said that during the Prophet’s time, everyone was expected to memorize the Qur’an.
