Is the Qur’an Eternal?
A Christian asked me this:
----------------------------------
Some Muslims state that the Quran is eternal. Is it then distinct from God, or is it (somehow) one unity with God? If it is distinct from God, then there are two eternal things: God and the Quran. But if there is
>only one eternal thing, ie., God, then the Quran is somehow in union with God. Christians assert the same thing about Jesus. As God's word, he is one with God without ceasing to be God's word. So, what do Muslims believe about the Quran and God?----------------------------------
I am interested to hear your opinion on this issue.

The Qur’an does not require a Muslim to believe that the Qur’an is eternal. In view of this fact, I do not hold any the referred belief regarding the Qur’an to be among the essential beliefs that a Muslim must ascribe to.
The question, in my opinion, should be addressed specifically to those who ascribe to the stated belief regarding the Qur’an as an essential article of faith of Islam.
I hope this helps.
