Watching Television…

May Allah Almighty be with you all.

My question is:

Is watching Television allowed in the religion as you come across so many Na Mehrams and Women as well. Please let us know in the light of modern day living where it has taken the shape of an important factor in our daily lives.

In the contemporary world, it seems that television has, to a great extent, become unavoidable. Because of its unchallengeable position as a source of knowledge and up to date information, it has become quite difficult to do without it. However, with the high degree of nudity that it generally shows and its presentation of women as 'commodities', it is spreading a lot of evil as well.

Due to this double faceted effect of television (and other communication media), a God-fearing person should try to pick the programs, which are likely to benefit him and his family and provide them with healthy entertainment. While all such programs, which are likely to soil his mind and soul should be avoided, as far as possible.

Watching television, per se, cannot, however, be termed as prohibited.

I hope this helps.
