Assalaamalikum If we call someone whose name is Abdur Rehman as just Rehman, do we commit Shirk in Allah’s name?
These names are merely adjectives not only related to the Almighty. One may call another by these names however only God is referred to as “Al Ghaffar” (i.e. The Forgiving). The “al” (i.e. the) before such titles indicates an absolute of whatever follows. Obviously only God can be attributed such absolute names, hence no one such be called “Al Aziz” or “Al Ghaffar” or any other such attribute as no human is absolute in them.
I hope I have clarified the issue.
God knows best.
