The claims of some writers and so called students of Islam that the Quran alludes to the erroneous belief that our dear and beloved Seal of all Prophets actually visits us and he is here there and everywhere sends chills down the spine of the true Believers. How can people protect their Tawhid, when votaries of Islam and paragons of Prophetic Love spin such cheap shirk on the unwary lay-Muslims? However all is not lost because even the ignorant retorts only Allah is omnipresent.
One by the name of Dr. Gibril F. Haddad, has written that the Prophet Muhammad is omnipresent. He has previously given the following profile of himself (August 1999) on the Internet, as “I am not a scholar but a student of Islamic scholars and scholarship who converted to Islam with a background in humanities. I have been involved in translating from Arabic into English for about nine years. I follow the Shafi`i madhhab and the Naqshbandi Tariqa. I presently reside in Damascus where I have had the privilege of hearing various ulamas in the different disciplines of Islam over the past two years.” He was born and raised in a typical middle-class Lebanese Catholic family in Beirut, Lebanon. He studied in England then went to Columbia College in New York. He has been associated with Shaykh Hisham Kabbani of Tripoli and Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani of Cyprus. These are famous Sufi cult leaders in America and Europe respectively. He also signs his name as Hajj Gibril although the editor for the AlBayan mentioned to me that this particular writer is Yemeni. Was it a mistake or haven’t we learnt from our Saints? Imam Malik used to say that verily “this Knowledge is Deen so be careful from whom you take”. If we hide under the veil that we are all Sunnis and each person is entitled to his belief and proofs then we’ll go cascading down the pitfalls of previous deviants like the Israelites. Maybe the four Schools of Fiqh are tolerable because each represents proofs acceptable within the parameters of the Ahl Sunnah wal Jama but not the false sects. Anyone who believes contrary to the belief system elucidated in the Blessed Tahawiya regardless of Mazhab affiliations has made his Deen seriously flawed.
In Jami’ Tirmizi the Prophet clearly warned that this Ummah will be divided into sects, fit for the Fire, for having deviant and unholy new ideas, except the saved Sect of the Ahl Sunnah wal Jama. When asked, He explained they are saved because they stick to the primary source of Quran, Hadith and the ways of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and rigidly adhere to the Majority. Now, did the Sahabah perform standing ovations of Milad? Abdullah bin Masud authentically stated in Tirmizi and documented in Mishkat pg. 403, that there wasn’t anyone to whom the Prophet was more beloved to than His Companions but they never used to stand whenever they saw him having known his dislike for such. My God, we love someone but disobey his very taste and oppose his astute orders.
The Deobandis have been disbanded as not believing in The Prophet’s Omnipresence, although the late King Faisal gave them accolades, but on the other hand in the section of Questions they are conveniently quoted- that dreams aren’t legal precepts in the Islamic Sharia. Mufti Muhammad bin Adam is a Deobandi Scholars from UK. He, like the majority of Islamic Scholars throughout history, Ijma’, believes that the Prophet isn’t omnipresent. Dreams and Visions aren’t Sharia proofs. So regardless who claims seeing him in some symbolic posture he still remains void of God-like attributes of Omnipresence.
Notwithstanding Namaz and practice of Sunnah, if you choose not to stand for Tazim, you are branded Wahabi! Another case of hiding behind the T-word. However, the tone makes you feel that such a slur is only a kind euphemism for Kafiri! But to stand is only Sunna according these promulgators, so I wonder what kind of Sunna? Muakkada or Mustahab? Don’t be fooled with words such as if you want to stand or sit no big deal. It’s written in their proof starved books that the person has to stand compulsorily and if he doesn’t then he’s a Disbeliever. Majmooa Fatawa Ghayatul Muram pg.55, 56, 67. To insist on a dead cultural practice, and for argument sake even if believed to be meritorious, with such misguided vigour and Fatwa manufacturing, tantamount to Haram as quoted in the Hanafi book Saayatu Vol 263 as referred to by Fatawa Mahmoodia Vol 1 pg. 205.
The enigma they are faced with is the daunting task, in the face of prolific differences on the opinions, concerning whether the National Holiday falls on the actual date of “commemorating His Birthday.” By the way, this disease of celebrating birthdays was never prevalent among Muslims before, but since Muslims started living alongside the non-Muslims, they became wrongly influenced. According to the majority opinion, He was born in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, in the year of the elephant but the actual date remains problematic. The day of his birth was Monday. Abu Qataadah narrates that the Prophet was asked regarding the fast of Monday. He replied, ‘It is the day I was born and also the day when the first revelation was sent upon me.’ Muslim Vol.1 pg. 368. Allaamah Kawthari prefers the 9th of Rabi-ul-Awwal as is found his Maqaalaatul Kawthari pg.405 – 207. Allaamah Qastalaani states that the majority of the Scholars of Hadith corroborated by major historians have also preferred this finding. He definitely passed away in Rabiul-Awwal on a Monday. As regards to the date of his demise, there are three opinions: 1st, 2nd and 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal according to Ibn Kathir’s Bidaaya Wan Nihaaya vol.5 pg.275. Let us calculate. The 9th Dhul-Hijjah in the year 10AH was when the Prophet performed Hajj and that was a Friday. If the months Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Safar, all were 30 days, or 29 days or some 29 and others 30 days, the 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal did not fall on a Monday. Therefore, the preferred view of the date of Our Beloved Prince of Both World’s demise is the 1st or 2nd Rabi-ul-Awwal. Ibn Jarir prefers the 1st Rabi-ul-Awwal while Ibn Hajar Asqalani prefers the 2nd Rabi-ul-Awwal as quoted in Al-Mawaahib by Zarqaani vol.1 pg.131.
The Prophet has taught this Ummah in the Quran that Allah is Raqib/ Overlooking over us. He is also Shahid/ Present and Witnessing at our deeds. In the Quran 4:1 states, “for Allah ever watches over you”, and 85:9 mentions that “and Allah is Witness to all things”. Here The Book of Allah declares that some Divine attributes are shareable like Rahim- both humans and God are compassionate. But not Rahman that is reserved for Allah alone-the all Merciful. Not Omniscient. Not Omnipotent. Not Omnipresent. Those are Allah’s reserves. Not even Prophets have access to these non-shareable passwords. AqidatutTahawiya.
The Indian zealot Ahmed Yar Khan in JaaalHaq 224, 227 while faltering in the ocean of misquotations produces yet another doctored spin of Prophet hood’s legacy. In Rahi Sunnah the ShaikulHadith Muhammad Sarfaraz Khan amply answered him and plus. Ahmad Yar claims that it’s enough to legislate an act to be Mustahab on the basis that Muslims perceive it to be good. Well even if drunkards and despots en masse feels some thing should be done in the name of dawah or Respect for the Prophet, despite the Sahabah and those who follow them until the 4th Century didn’t think it so, that will now be the new jurisdiction. What atrocious flouncing of the dear religion of which our Prophet lost his daughter, homeland and blessed teeth for. If there is anyone worth emulation after the Prophet it is Sahabah. Quran says, “Those are the people we have guided so be guided by them”. Or have we been veiled by the ” Sheikh-Fearing” allegiances and forgotten our Allah fearing Islam?
The famous Imam of all Hanafi, Mujaddid Alfi Sani- Sirhindi- rahmatullah alihim, wrote in his decisive chronicles- maktubaat 72 in the 3 rd section- “that his heart is saying that the doors of such acts should be closed otherwise grave consequences are imminent.”
Nowadays dubious foreigners flirt on TV, hypnotising an audience of naƒÆ’¯vetĮթ, whereas our Deen isn’t sourced from dynamic Hollywood tactics, but based on clear-cut Quran and Sunnah tenets. Do we follow grave worshippers and Sunnah warriors or the eminent Moulana Bukhari and Mufti Muslim? Hear what such Classical Scholars of Islam have to report: “Whoever introduces anything that is not part of Deen, into this Deen of ours, it shall be rejected.” Imam Malik “disproved using the word Bidah Hassanah as this is supposed to be an insult to the Prophet and blasphemy to the Office of Prophet hood. It is like saying he didn’t foresee these needs and consequently left the Deen incomplete.” The Hadith “kullu bidatin dhallah”- all innovations are misguidance-doesn’t exclude any form of unsubstantiated introduction into Islam.
Omnipresence? My God, when Allah deputes angels to shuttle the various Daruds and Salutations from all nooks of the earth back to Madina, it makes no sense to have the Prophet visiting here, there and every freeing-up-ostentatious gathering to receive their improper Yaa Nabi Salam Alaika. See the Hadith in Mishkat Vol 1 pg 196 and Darimi 416 that angels expedite this duty morning and evening, gathering the Sunnah Darud Ibrahimi prayed by everyone and delivering it to the Prophet, who replies ten times to each salutation.
Let us examine the Quranic misinterpretation that the Prophet will be brought on the Day of Judgment as a witness and for one to be a witness he has to see everything in detail. Therefore as the writer argues ipso facto He sees us during our lifetime otherwise how would he possibly be able to stand in witness box on the Day of Judgment! It sounds like some dogmatic Catholic or Black Bushism. Isn’t it? To be a witness seeing the act alone isn’t enough. Isn’t integrity also needed? In Islam someone could reliably relay that such a thing happened, after the news of the same became wide spread and with least doubts hanging, e.g. the way moon sighting Committees operate. Hidaya Vol 3 pg 145. On that Day the witnesses will be of vagaries: hands, skin, feet, stones besides angels and Apostles, all will take turns in the box “beneath” the Throne. Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri said to someone once, “I see that you like sheep and the desert, so when you are looking after your sheep or when you are in the desert and want to pronounce the Adhan, raise your voice, for no Jinn, human being or any other things hear the Mu’adh-dhin’s voice but will be a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.” Abu Sa’id added, “I heard this from Allah’s Apostle.” Bukhari.
However the truth about this verse 4:41: “How then will you be if We brought from each people a witness, and We brought thee as a witness against these people!” is both The Muslims and Their Messenger will be summoned as witnesses against Noah when he will be questioned as to whether the message was actually delivered to his drowned people or not. They would deny that a Warner came to them. When the Muslims would have affirmed Noah’s claim, the proof of their knowledge will be none other than the Quran. Were they living in the time of Noah? No. But just as the Prophet’s evidence will be through Revelation their proof stands equally qualified as it is nothingeslse but the very revealed and transmitted Quran. As a matter of fact the Quranic statement in 4:41 has been explained by the official exegesis written by Ibn Kathir 2nd Part pg 4 and corroborated by the Hadith found in Ibn Mardawia and Ibn Hatim compilations that this Ummah will give evidence on behalf of all previous Prophets and not only Noah. In Musnad Ahmad the scenario is more explicitly explained as to what will happen between us and Noah, disqualifying non sequitur all misrepresentations of the Final Prophet being Omnipresent. Besides, the Quran alludes that all Muslims will be made witnesses, so are Abu Bakr Sidiq or Mr. Gabriel omnipresent? Yes the Quran states this aptly in 2:143 “Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Messenger a witness over yourselves..”.
The Prophet himself declares his knowledge compared to Allah’s is no more than a wet beak against the vast seas. One may question what’s the raison’d’etre for the Prophet being Omnipresent. Since standing for him is clearly unsubstantiated and all myths on this superimposed belief is already debunked, then a drowning man scrambles any straw. So some wise fellows clutched the last vestige of reasoning and conjured up this freak idea that He has arrived in our presence so stand and greet him! What if some Sufi claims visions, that doesn’t mean our Prophet leaves his grave to visit every leaf and attend everyone’s “celebrations”. The fact is his grave is the first to be opened on the Day of Reckoning; Muslims couldn’t possibly lie through the teeth and claim He leaves on regular flights out of the Green Dome of Auspiciousness. “My grave will be the first to be opened on the day of Qiyaamah and I shall be the first person to intercede and the first person whose intercession shall be accepted.” Hadith
In the books of Fiqh if some official solemnizes a Nikah without witnesses and claims that Allah and the Prophet are the witnesses, then such a marriage contract will be deemed null and void. And as for the act of disregarding the Messenger, believing he is present and is acting as a witness of this transaction, this will be considered Kufr! See Fatawa Alamgiri Vol. 2 pg. 843, the Section on Murtad. May Allah bless our classical Scholars for guiding us with Light and logics.
They have claimed that He, on whom be peace, has arrived so let him take the head table and address us. Sounds like typical Guyanese “folklore” where superstitions about the dead only profit Exorcist Banditry- Taj Mahal con artists. The dead doesn’t visit us or play on someone or raps at the door twelve o’clock in the night. Come on Students of Islam, wake up and smell the coffee.
Some Ali Baba goes on the White Box and claims that since Allah has a month, i.e. Ramadan, then one month should also be dedicated to the Prophet! Now even a child in our Islamic Nursery knows that all twelve months belong to Allah and whoever obeys Allah obeys the Prophet. Maybe they can join our kindergarten and celebrate the praises and promote the teachings of the Respected Prophet 24/7 for 360 odd days every year, till death, the way our Saints and Scholars did and are still doing.
I am pleading to you our Ulama of Haq; avoid getting cocooned in the nest of self-righteousness, while the Ummah pulls the bench beneath everyone’s feet. Issues must be dealt with, regardless of economic or emotional trials. Remember the trials of Imam Ahmad and Abu Hanifa, Ibn Taimiya and the fraternity for challenging corruption in the religion by arrogant bigots, the likes of Akbar and Mustassim. The one from whom we have inherited this Divine Ilm warned in Mishkat that :”whenever a Bidah originates in my Ummah and the Ulama do not prevent it then the curse of Allah descends on all.” Serious indeed. The good thing is not only to refrain, of which 99% do, but educate the masses and refute the troublemakers.
Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam. May the peace and blessings be upon Him forever, every time He is mentioned or written, thought about or even attacked.
