I would like to know whether in Islam is it must for a woman to spend the time of four months and ten days or until the birth of child, in case of being pregnant, in the house in which she lived with her husband? Does Islam allow woman to go to her parent/brother/sister house for that Iddah with or without the consent of her in-laws?
I asked this question because her parents can comfort her more, without any doubt, than her in-laws who are already in mourning for their son’s death.
The Shari`ah does not make it obligatory for the woman to pass her Iddah (waiting period) at any particular place. Thus, the woman may spend these days at a place of her convenience.
I hope this helps.
