Ablution Method in the Shia Sect

January 17, 2005

Question

I have seen many Shia Muslims who start ablution (WUZU) from feet instead of Hands. Does that contradicts the Hadith of Holy Prophet?

Allah Hafiz

Answer

Starting ablution from the feet rather than hands is opposite to the directives of the Qur’an. (refer to 5:6). However the practice you mentioned does not apply to Shia Muslims, as they have no differences with the mainstream Muslims in terms of the order of ablution. Perhaps this is only a misunderstanding.
