Question
My question is pertaining to marriages between shi’ites and sunnis. I have read many things about it online but i wanted to ask somebody MY question. I am a sunni girl he namewanting to marry a shia guy and his parents are fine but my parents are against it, because they believe Shias are not even considered “muslims” because they have change our first kalma by adding the name of Hazrat Ali at the the end of the kalma ( Aliun waliullah). they say there’s no proof that our prophet(PBUH) wanted Hazrat ALi to carry on as his successor because in Quran it says that prophecy ends with our last prophet(PBUH). So did the shias change the kalma and the azaan or the kalma was said by our Prophet himself which shias believe? can you tell me if there’s anywhere in the quran if it mentions that shias and sunnis can be married to each other. Please give me thorough answere for this, I am in a very complicated situation. I’ll be waiting for your reply, hopefully get an answere very soon.
Thank you so much for your time.

That is their personal opinion, which contradicts facts and history. In fact, they have no authority to make such a proclamation.

Again, this is not accurate. The Shi’ite kalimah (declaration) is the same as the Sunni and it is all that is required from the religion. When Ali’s (pbuh) name is used it does not negate the original declaration. It is not part of the religion, of course, but it also does not expel anyone from Islam either.

Prophecy did end with the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) but that has nothing to do with who his successor was supposed to be. Initially, the matter of who was to take over the mantle of Islam was political. Whether one believes that Ali or anyone else should have been heir to the caliphate does not make them any less of a Muslim.

There is no such thing in the Qur’an. In fact, Sunnis and Shias came after the Qur’an. Setting that aside, it is obvious that religion is important to you therefore I can only urge you to become more familiar with Qur’an and Shia beliefs so that you know what to expect. Being better acquainted with what one believes should help in making better choices for themselves.
I hope this helps.
God knows best.
