Question
What happened to Zuljanah after the death of Imam Hussain?
Answer
Many exaggerated stories and fictions are surround the events of Karbala. This is, of course, expected as this is the nature of any event that has potential of becoming an epic, in particular a religious epic. What then happens is that you will find most of the event being narrated by only one side of the story and also it will be very difficult to separate facts from fiction.
With the above in mind, we find in Manaqib Ali-AbiTalib by ibn Shahr Ashub (4:58) that Zil-Jinah attempted to protect the body of Hussain (ra) after he fell from the horse. We read in Bihar al-Anwar (45:60) that Zil-Jinah then rushed into the tents of Hussain’s (ra) family and we read in Tazkira al-Shuhada of Mulla Habibullah Kashani (353) that after this Zil-Jinah went to the river of Furat, entered the water and disappeared from the sight.
We are not in a position to approve or disapprove the above reports.
