Question
I have some money at a current account. I have being told that if a year passes and the moey is still there (the fixed amount), i need to give zakah on it. Shiek my question is how much percentage do i need to take out in every one hundred pound or even every one thousand pound. Shiek, this issue is realy troubling me as i’d like to purify all my wealth. may allah always guide us to what is right.
I await with patience the answer to this issue.
Answer
The passage of the year is not a criterion here. What you need to do is to determine your total idle wealth (including the amount of money in your current account that is not going to be used for your routine personal needs) on a given date every year (this date is to be determined by yourself) and to pay 2.5% of it as Zakah. This is with the condition that your total idle wealth exceeds the value of 612 grams of silver (that is called Nisab).
