Algeria approached to buy the Su-57, the latest Russian combat plane

Russia announces its first export contracts for its new generation Su-57 fighter. The information, reported by the specialist magazine Scramble, was confirmed by the CEO of Rosoboronexport, the national arms export agency, during the Zhuhai International Air Show in China.

Although the identity of the client has not been officially revealed, several sources mention Algeria as the first buyer. An Algerian military delegation had already expressed interest during the Moscow Aerospace Show in 2019, with discussions surrounding the potential acquisition of a fleet of aircraft.

The Su-57, developed by the manufacturer Sukhoi, represents the latest generation of Russian fighters. This multirole stealth aircraft stands out for its advanced air combat and ground attack capabilities, rivaling the latest generation of Western fighters. Scramble magazine had already mentioned this possible sale in September 2020, even mentioning the signing of a contract two months later. This acquisition, if confirmed, would mark a new stage in military cooperation between Russia and its traditional partners.
