Assassination of a young Muslim in a mosque: the CFCM denounces an “Islamophobic terrorist attack”

The French Council for Muslim worship (CFCM) said it was “horrified” by “the barbaric and ignoble assassination” by Aboubakar, 22, stabbed “between 40 and 50 times” while he prayed in the Mosque de la Grand-Combe (Gard).

The attacker, still on the run, filmed “the agony of the victim” by uttering “Islamophobic insults” before broadcasting “the unbearable video” on Snapchat, the CFCM said in its press release.

According to the first elements, the attacker approached Aboubakar by requesting “his help to learn to pray”. The latter, “known for its exemplarity and dedication”, was “cowardly murdered at the time of prostration”, underlines the CFCM.

The organization expresses its “most saddened condolences” to the family of the victim and all Muslims in France, “deeply upset, traumatized and horrified” by this crime.

For several months, the CFCM has said that alert the authorities to “the dramatic consequences of trivialization and media coverage of anti -Muslim hatred”. He also deplores the “media treatment” of this attack, “minimizing the Islamophobic gravity of this terrorist act” by evoking “wrongly” a personal dispute.

Faced with this “extremely worrying situation”, the CFCM calls for the faithful “not to be alone or isolated in mosques” and claims the public authorities “the immediate trigger of a national reinforced protection plan” of Muslim places of worship.
