Basketball – USA: the Warriors celebrate Muslim heritage around an Indo-Texan halal barbecue

THE Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team that plays in NBAthe main North American league. Based in San Francisco, the franchise is one of the best known and most successful in the championship. It benefits from strong international visibility and regularly highlights actions in favor of diversity and inclusion.

This Thursday, on the occasion of their Muslim Heritage Nightthe Warriors will highlight Muslim culture during the match against the New York KnicksAt Chase Center. For the first time, halal dishes will be offered inside the room itself, thanks to the Fikscue restaurant, specializing in halal Texan barbecue with Indonesian flavors.

The event, organized in partnership with HalalFestshould bring together several hundred supporters. On the menu: notably smoked brisket and chicken skewers sate ayam. A prayer space will also be made available to Muslim fans during the match. In a context marked by the rise of Islamophobia and political tensions in the United States, this evening goes beyond simple sport. It offers a moment of visibility and recognition to a community that is still little present in major sports arenas, while responding to concrete needs that are often ignored.

This initiative shows how a major sports franchise can use its notoriety to better reflect the cultural and religious diversity of society. By offering, even occasionally, a halal offer and adapted facilities, the Warriors send a strong message: professional sport can be an open, inclusive space, where everyone can feel fully in their place.
