Bulgaria: young Muslims celebrate the mosque through art

In Bulgarianearly 200 young Muslims participated in the artistic competition “Mosque in My Life”organized for the second consecutive year by the Office of the Grand Mufti. Aimed at 7-25 year olds, the initiative invited participants to express, through painting, poetry or writing, the place occupied by the mosque in their daily lives. Several historic mosques in the country have been honored through sensitive works, revealing a strong attachment to this religious and cultural heritage.

A jury distinguished the three best creations in each category, with prizes awarded through regional muftis. The organizers praised the commitment and creativity of the participants, emphasizing that this work contributes to preserving the memory and role of mosques in Bulgarian society, while encouraging the artistic expression of new generations. This competition is part of a broader process of cultural transmission and reappropriation among Muslims in Bulgaria. By using art and writing, it offers young people a space for expression that links religious heritage, personal experience and contemporary creativity. A concrete way of bringing Muslim identity to life, not as a fixed heritage, but as a dynamic reality, carried and reinvented by young people.
