Dr. Raphaël Pitti on Gaza: “The population has been martyred for 18 months. Violence tracks the inhabitants even in their sleep”

Raphaël Pitti, emergency doctor and founder of the medical NGO Husome, sounded the alarm in an interview with the parliamentary chain (LCP)-see the video below-denouncing an “untenable” situation in the Gaza Strip.

“We have seven primary care centers divided between the north and the south of Gaza, but at present, we have practically no more drugs to treat the population”, he alerted. In parallel, Husome tries to distribute drinking water – 17,000 liters per day – despite “major logistical difficulties”, in particular due to the recent destruction of a scalloping factory.

“The inhabitants live in terror. They sleep dressed, ready backpack, to be able to flee in the event of bombing. Violence hunts them down to their sleep”, testified the doctor. Faced with this humanitarian emergency, Raphaël Pitti calls for an immediate cease-fire and a replenishment without delay. “This population has been martyred for 18 months. It is no longer a question of blurred diplomatic discussions. We must act now, arrest this war, these bombings”he insisted.

Asked about the situation of children, the emergency room underlined the severity of physical and mental injuries inflicted on an entire generation. “We don’t only care for bodies, we try to maintain human dignity in inhumanity”he added, visibly moved.

While diplomatic discussions evoke possible recognition of the Palestinian State in June by France, Raphaël Pitti calls to act without waiting: “The conditional recognition of a state is for later. Today, this war must be stopped, stop the bombing. »» A cry of alarm that the doctor launches to the international community, faced with an untenable situation.
