Fascist Minister Ben-Gvir wants to treat activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest flotilla for Gaza, like “terrorists” and lock them in prisons

The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, a messianic figure of the racist and genocidal far right, presented a plan aimed at preventing the Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest flotilla ever organized towards Gaza, 50 ships and activists from 44 countries. True to his hateful ideology, Ben-Gvir wants to assimilate the activists to “terrorists”, lock them in prisons reserved for Palestinians accused of “terrorism” and withdraw all basic straight. “They must understand that helping terrorism has a price,” he hammered, bluntly criminalizing international humanitarian solidarity.

The minister goes so far as to threaten to confiscate the ships and put them at the service of the occupation forces. Its objective: to discourage any initiative aimed at breaking the inhuman blockade imposed on Gaza for 18 years. Unlike the previous flutils, activists will no longer be expelled after a brief detention, but kept in prison under particularly harsh conditions, comparable to those imposed on Palestinian political prisoners.

The flotilla, part Sunday of Barcelona, brings together personalities like Greta Thunberg, the Irish actor Liam Cunningham and the American actress Susan Sarandon. All denounce a situation of “humanitarian emergency” in Gaza and want to alert world opinion to a seat which they consider a blatant violation of international law and a permanent war crime. By attacking these figures of international solidarity, Ben-Gvir confirms his messianic and racial drift, inscribed in an assumed colonial project: stifling any challenge to the blockade and criminalizing those who denounce the genocide in progress against the Palestinian people.
