“Flutilla de la Liberté”: the Marseille doctor Baptiste André testifies to mistreatment inflicted by the Israeli army
Back in France on Tuesday, the emergency doctor Marseille Baptiste André, a member of the humanitarian flotilla for Gaza, delivered an icing testimony to the airport (see video below) on the way the Israeli authorities have treated pacifist activists intercepted at sea. “We arrived in Ashdod, the Israeli port, where a committee of 200 soldiers awaited us”he said. “Several excavations in the body, excavations of equipment, then a transfer to van to the immigration services. »»
This is where the conditions hardened. “I do not have the legal qualifications to qualify everything, but there were clearly acts of mistreatment”he said. He speaks of deprivation of sleep, mockery, music pushed thoroughly as soon as a militant closed his eyes. “I saw Greta Thunberg prevented from sleeping, awakened as soon as she was offset. Immigration services danced before us. We took more than three hours to have a piece of bread. No access to sanitary facilities. »»
He also denounces the presentation of documents qualified as “fallacious”, baptized by the Israeli authorities “Deportation requests”. Under pressure, some have signed to be able to come back faster. “I have signed, for personal reasons and to be able to testify here. I am the first Frenchman to have returned, and I also do it for my comrades still there. »»
But beyond the reported facts, another scandal is added to this sequence: that of the shameful attitude of certain French editorialists. While the members of the flotilla were detained and humiliated, chroniclers tried to turn their commitment into derision, describing the operation as a “militant cruise that has fun” or a media farce. Worse still, some saw fit to salute the behavior of the Israeli army simply because it would have offered sandwiches to detainees – thus paying tribute, unscrupulous, to an army accused of genocide in Gaza. A striking contrast between the brutal reality experienced by militants and the comfortable cynicism of certain TV sets.
