François Bayrou: “I do not want to make Islam a subject of fixing of French society. I know that it is fashion (…) but we must live together”

Invited this morning on BFM TV, Prime Minister François Bayrou warned against the temptation to make Islam a central subject of the public debate, denouncing a “fashion” which, according to him, feeds divisions within French society.

“I do not want to make Islam a subject of fixing of French society. I know that it is fashion, that it probably has success in certain circles, but we have to live together, “he said, believing that the bidding around the security and identity themes were only exacerbating tensions. He referred to MEMB MEMB FESNEAU, who recently denounced a “sovereign escalation”. François Bayrou reaffirmed the need for living together: “In France, atheists, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists-and I don’t know who still-let’s have to live together. The head of government has pointed out the responsibility of those who, according to him, “maintain the rise in tensions”. He recalled the secular foundations of the Republic: “All those who want to make religious law become more important than civil law does not respect the French principles. »»
