French journalists organize a “die-in” in tribute to their colleagues killed in Gaza
Wednesday, April 16, several hundred journalists gathered in Paris and Marseille to denounce the human losses suffered by the press in Gaza since the start of the war in October 2023. In Paris, in front of the Opera Bastille, an impressive “Die-in” brought together more than 200 media professionals, lying on the ground to symbolize the death of nearly 200 journalists killed in the Palestinian Enclave. The demonstrators sported press vests stained with red, brandished the portraits of their fellow Palestinian colleagues and samples proclaiming: “Gaza of faces, not just figures”. The action, very visual, aimed to alert the heavy price paid by Palestinian journalists in a conflict where the foreign press is largely absent from the field. During the rally, slogans such as “We will not be silent” And “Free Palestine” resonated alongside Palestinian flags and Keffiehs.
This mobilization has found very little echo in the major national media. No report in the 8 p.m. television newspapers, and almost total silence on the four main continuous information chains.
