Gaza: footballers set an example for artists
Ousmane Dembélé, Ibrahima Konaté, Dayot Upamecano and Jules Kounde, several players from the French team denounced the abuses of the Israeli army in Gaza, particularly after the bombings on displaced people in Rafah at the end of May. Like other public figures with a strong media impact, such as the YouTuber Squeezie, their positions are highly symbolic and testify to a new generation of footballers who are no longer afraid of exposing themselves and taking a stand on a news that divides opinion. Often held to neutrality and discretion by their partners, their sponsors, the time is no longer for restraint for these public figures who could also be criticized for not expressing themselves. On the influencer side, those who have delayed the longest in taking positions are being pressured to do so by a public increasingly aware of the violations of international law taking place in Gaza. Other personalities remain silent on these subjects. This is particularly the case for many actors and comedians, some of whom approve of the actions of the Israeli army, while others do not speak out or fear the reactions of the film industry.
