Gaza – Michel Lacharité (MSF): “It’s really unheard of” after the carnage of food distributions

It’s really unheard of. »Michel Lacharité, head of emergencies of doctors without borders (MSF), launched a cry of alert on Wednesday evening on France 2. Faced with the magnitude of the carnage around food distributions in the Gaza Strip, he denounces a dramatic situation: “We are still talking about 600 people killed during food distributions, more than 4,000 injured. »»

At the heart of its criticisms, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a mechanism supposed to coordinate humanitarian aid, but which Lacheity categorically rejects: “Humanitarian aid, this organization has only the name. It is really a simulacrum, supported by Israel and the United States. »»

He also attacks the position of the French government: “What we also saw of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs is that he proposed to secure distributions. Now we are really in a famine situation. The main problem is the lack of food. People are hungry, they do what they can to feed their family. »» For him, “proposing to strengthen the protection of these distributions is unworthy and irresponsible. »»

MSF has already lost 11 employees since the start of the war. But the overall assessment is much heavier: “There have been nearly 1,000 caregivers killed, doctors, nurses. Even Wednesday, the director of the Indonesian hospital of Beit Lahia was killed. And in total, he recalls, “400 humanitarian workers, mainly Palestinians, have been killed in the past year. »»

Figures, targets, methods: everything indicates that it is no longer a humanitarian crisis, but a genocide in progress. Organized famine, attacks on civilians, systematic annihilation of medical and humanitarian staff – this policy of destruction carries out methodically, under the diplomatic protection of powerful allies. As long as the United States, the European Union and its partners will continue to support or cover this logic, they too will carry a share of responsibility in the erasure of a people.
