Gaza: The guilty silence of Europe denounces Gérard Araud
Gérard Araud, former French ambassador to the United States and Israel, did not chew his words in an interview with the program Dailyforcefully denouncing the deafening silence of Europe in the face of the humanitarian drama that is played out in Gaza. “Israel has nothing to do with Europeans, and in any case, Europeans are silent”he launched, emphasizing a crying imbalance in Western reactions to conflicts. “Whenever two missiles come across Soumy, Ukraine, the world is indignant – and it is legitimate. But compared to what is happening in Gaza, where the dead are counted by the thousands, it is silence. The great silence. »» And to deplore the absence of images, reports, stories in the European media: “You see almost nothing on the screens. »»
With this Gérard Araud adorner points out what he considers as a political and media hypocrisy: an indignation with variable geometry, where the victims do not all have the same weight depending on whether they fall to kyiv or Rafah. A harsh criticism that relaunches the debate on the place of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the European diplomatic agenda-and on the moral responsibility of those who choose to look away.
