Hadith Contradiction: The Result Of Death By Drowning Or Burning

May 25, 2011

Question

AoA

Have heard that Rasool e paak (PBUH) asked PANAAH from Death by sea or fire. On the other hand have also heard that Rasool e paak said that he who dies of calamity ( drowning or burning etc)will be shaheed. these appear to contradict. please clarify. if one is incorrect ,then too please let me know.

jazaakAllah!

Answer

The first Hadith relates to general concept of accidentally dying in a rather painful way and obviously, according to the Hadith, the Prophet (pbuh) prays for that not to happen.

The second Hadith relates to the specific case of some one who goes out to fight in the path of God and then is drowned or burned. The Hadith implies that when the intention is to fight in the path of God then if the person dies in other than the battlefield (for instance in the way to the battle field) then he is still martyred.
