Is There a Difference Between the Prayers of Men & Women?

April 28, 2011

Question

assalamoalaikum

my question : is there a single[similar] way for muslims to offer namaz or men & women should offer namaz in different way.
thank you.

Answer

The differences are more common sense ones in terms of style and on the basis of modesty, for instance while man normally open their feet slightly, women normally keep them together, or while men put only their palms on flour for prostration, women are advised to put the full arms on flour to avoid exposing their body, while sitting in Tashahud, men usually make their knees slightly apart while women are advised to hold them together.
