Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir Calls for Assassination of Palestinian Prisoners

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for shooting Palestinian prisoners in the head on June 30.

Sparking controversy with his recent statements regarding Palestinian prisoners, Ben-Gvir said in a video posted on Instagram:

“Prisoners should be shot in the head instead of getting more food.”

The minister addressed the issue of prison conditions, saying: “It is regrettable that I have had to ask myself in recent days whether Palestinian prisoners should receive fruit baskets.” He stressed his support for a bill proposed by his right-wing Otzma Yehudit party, which calls for the execution of Palestinian prisoners, saying: “They should be shot in the head, and the bill to execute Palestinian prisoners must pass the third reading in the Knesset.”

“Until then, we will give them the minimum food to survive. I am not interested in that,” Ben-Gvir added.

Germany condemned these remarks on July 1:

“These are disgusting statements that we condemn,” said deputy foreign ministry spokesman Christian Wagner in Berlin.

Wagner declined to say whether the statements would have political consequences.

This comes as the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Committee and the Palestinian Prisoners Club revealed on June 30 that Israeli occupation forces have arrested more than 9,450 Palestinians from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since the start of the ongoing war of extermination in Gaza and the global aggression against the Palestinian people.
