Italy: general strike for Gaza, transport and disturbed schools

Italy lives this 24 -hour national strike day on Monday, September 22, on Monday, September 22, at the call of the basic USB, CUB, ADL and SGB unions. The mobilization, which affects all public and private sectors, denounces “the genocide in Palestine”, the sending of weapons to Israel, the war economy and precarious work at work. More than sixty processions are announced throughout the country. Transport is strongly impacted: the Termini station of the Roman metro and the M4 line in Milan are closed, and the USB Puglia evokes up to 70 % of strikers in transport. Schools, including nurseries, are also affected.
Beyond the figures, this mobilization illustrates a gesture of civic courage. Despite political pressures, the unfavorable weather and the risk of wage loss, thousands of workers, students and families have chosen to get up to defend the dignity of a people under the bombs. By assuming this personal cost, they recall that international solidarity is not limited to words but is also expressed in collective action.
