It’s official: Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is running for a second term in September
If his decision to organize an early presidential election on September 7, 2024, created surprise last March from one side of the Mediterranean to the other, the intention of the Algerian head of state to run for a second term, on the strength of his encouraging record, rich in achievements, was obvious.
It is therefore quite naturally, and without giving the lie to the predictions, that Abdelmadjid Tebboune put an end to the relative suspense over his political future, during his recent interview with the national media. And it was not the warm popular welcome he received, Wednesday, in Tizi Ouzou, in the heart of Kabylie, that thwarted his legitimate ambition.
“At the request of several political and non-political parties and organizations and of the youth, I believe that the time has come to announce that I am running for a second term, as permitted by the Constitution, and it is up to the Algerian people to have the final say.” he said, as reported by the APS website.
“All the victories achieved are those of the Algerian people and not mine”stressed the President of the Republic of Algeria, before listing some of its positive results, likely to put Algeria on the right track: ” It is common knowledge that state revenues have increased, that the drain on the Treasury is a thing of the past and that Algeria has recovered the squandered funds that it could have recovered and estimated in billions of dollars.
And to remember that “ Today, the Algerian citizen enjoys all his rights and fulfills his duties.
His arrival was greeted with cheers in Tizi Ouzou, where the Algerian president did not hesitate to take a crowd bath.
