Jargeau mosque (Loiret): confirmed criminal nature, the CFCM denounces a “deafening silence”
In a press release published on March 2, 2025, the French Council for Muslim worship (CFCM) claims to have been “shocked” by the fire which completely destroyed the Ditib de Jargeau mosque on February 26. The body stresses that this attack is part of a series of hostile acts targeting this place of worship, already targeted in 2023 and early 2024.
The CFCM indicates that the criminal nature of the fire was confirmed by the Orleans prosecutor’s office on February 28, 2025. The CFCM particularly deplores the low media and political echo aroused by this event, believing that this risks fueling a feeling of differentiated treatment within the French Muslim community.
The press release specifies that a solidarity initiative was launched via an online collection on Cotizup by Ditib France to rebuild the mosque. In the meantime, a temporary solution has been set up for the faithful. The CFCM finally greets the mobilization of help, the police and the inhabitants of Jargeau, while calling for national unity and vigilance against all forms of hatred.
CFCM press release
The CFCM condemns with the greatest vigor the incendiary attack which ravaged the Ditib of Jargeau’s Ditib mosque and deplores the almost general silence around this criminal act.
On February 26, we were shocked by the fire which entirely ravaged the Ditib de Jargeau mosque and issued the very likely hypothesis of criminal act given the acts of hatred having targeted this mosque in 2023 and more recently on February 7, 2025.
According to the press release from the Prosecutor of the Republic of Orleans dated February 28, 2025, the analyzes of the samples from the premises confirm the hypothesis of a criminal act.
The CFCM forcefully denounces and condemns with the greatest vigor this anti -Muslim attack which constitutes a serious attack on religious freedom and a serious threat to our national cohesion.
The CFCM calls on all the living forces of our country to participate in the reconstruction of the destroyed mosque. An official collection is put online by Ditib France on the Cotizup platform under the title “Support for Jargeau”.
Pending this reconstruction, a replacement solution was implemented on Friday, February 28, 2025 by the managers and the faithful of the mosque.
The CFCM deplores that this anti -Muslim attack has only sparked rare communications despite the confirmation of its criminal nature. Unfortunately, this is used to settle in Muslims in France the feeling of being less considered than other components of the nation.
The Muslims of France legitimately awaited usual testimonies of solidarity and strong and unanimous condemnations in the media and in the political class in the face of acts of hatred of this gravity which should never be trivialized.
In addition, the CFCM wishes to salute the intervention of the firefighters and the police as well as the inhabitants of Jargeau for their support and their solidarity, confirming that hatred and division will not triumph in our country.
The CFCM reiterates its call for national unity and vigilance in the face of all forms of hatred, in order to preserve the values of freedom, equality and fraternity which found our republic.
