LFI calls for mobilizations in support of the Freedom flotilla and for the end of the genocide in Gaza
Twelve humanitarian workers and pacifist activists, including the French MEP Rima Hassan and the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, were arrested on the night of Sunday to Monday by the Israeli authorities, after the interception of the Freedom Flatilla ship, denounced France rebellious on Monday.
The boat was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, subject to a total blockade since March 2. According to the press release, the interception took place outside of Israeli territorial waters, which would constitute a violation of maritime and humanitarian law. The political movement denounces an “illegal” arrest and requires the immediate release of passengers, engaged in a mission qualified as “strictly civil and non-violent”. He also calls on the European Union, the UN and the Member States to condemn this operation and to put pressure on Israel to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Mobilizations are scheduled for Monday, June 9 in several cities in France to support the Fluil de la Liberté flotilla and denounce the blockade and the end of the genocide in Gaza. In Paris, a rally is announced at 6 p.m. Place de la République. Other rallies will take place in particular in Aix-en-Provence (La Rotonde, 7 p.m.), Amiens (Place de l’Hotel de Ville, 6 p.m.), Angers (Place du Ralliement, 6 p.m.), Angoulême, Annecy and Annemasse, all at 6 p.m.
