The CFCM also denounces what it describes as a “double standard” in the media and political treatment of this type of attacks, varying according to “the skin color, origin or religion of the victims”. The CFCM calls for the fight against the “trivialization of anti-Muslim violence” and invites potential witnesses to come forward to clarify the circumstances of this attack.

Disabled woman brutally attacked because she is Muslim

The French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM) expresses its deep indignation at the racist and anti-Muslim attack of which a 42-year-old woman with a disability, wearing a veil and recently weakened by chemotherapy treatment, was the victim.

The attack took place on Tuesday December 3, 2024 in a LiDL store in Marignane, where the victim was brutalized and humiliated by a store manager. She tore off her veil, broke her phone and hit her face. A 5 cm wound formed on the face of the victim who was coughing up blood when firefighters arrived. The doctor suspects an intracranial hemorrhage.

The CFCM expresses its total support to the victim and sends him all its most sincere wishes for a good recovery and courage in this traumatic ordeal. The CFCM finds it shocking that LiDL has still not communicated about this attack and has not announced any measures against the attacker. He invites anyone who witnessed this attack to testify to help shed light on what happened.

Given the first elements of information, it is completely incomprehensible that at this stage of the procedure, the aggravating circumstances of the victim’s vulnerability and her religious affiliation are not taken into account by Justice.

Unfortunately, we have to note once again that some of our media and politicians seem to have variable geometry indignation depending on the skin color, origin or religion of the victims. This double standard is at odds with our Republican values, including the equality of all and equal respect for their dignity.

After the trivialization of anti-Muslim speech, are we witnessing the trivialization of anti-Muslim violence?

The fight against attacks on the physical integrity of all our fellow citizens and respect for their equal dignity must be a priority for all. This fight must first begin by putting an end to the promotion of hate preachers in our media, their conspiracy theories and their racist approach to society.
