Mecca: a free left-luggage service for Umrah pilgrims (small pilgrimage)

The authorities of Mecca announced on Wednesday the establishment of a free locker service for the faithful performing Umrah, this “small pilgrimage” which, unlike the Hajj, can be accomplished throughout the year.

The General Authority for Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque indicated that these storage spaces are located in two strategic locations: to the east of the Grand Mosque, near the library of Mecca, and to the west, near gate 64.

To access this service, pilgrims simply need to present their permit via the Nusuk app. Luggage, limited to 7 kg per person, can be left for a maximum of four hours. Please note that valuables, prohibited items, food and medicine are not accepted.

The authorities plan to extend this system to the entire perimeter of the Grand Mosque to further facilitate the journey of the faithful who flock by the thousands every day to perform this Muslim rite. This measure completes a series of improvements to services for pilgrims, testifying to the continued modernization of the holy city’s infrastructure. It responds to a concrete need of the faithful who, until now, had to manage their luggage during their religious practices, particularly during peak periods.
