More than 100 Muslim city councilors call on UK government to immediately suspend arms sales to Israel

More than 100 Muslim Labor Party councilors have sent a letter to party leader and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, demanding an immediate end to arms sales to Israel. They accuse these exports of contributing to the escalation of violence in Gaza and Lebanon, where thousands of Palestinians and civilians continue to lose their lives.

The signatories, from different regions of the United Kingdom, stress that the human toll in Gaza is “unimaginable”. They recall that, according to their information, more than 17,000 children were killed in one year in this blockaded enclave. The letter also mentions the destruction of 31 hospitals and 88% of schools in the Gaza Strip, making the humanitarian situation catastrophic.

The letter, made public on Friday by the Labor Muslim Network on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizes the UK’s moral obligation to act. “We must not be complicit in flagrant violations of international humanitarian law”say the advisors. They call on the Labor government to suspend all arms sales to Israel until the principles of international law are respected.

Through this approach, Muslim advisors hope to push the government to review its positions and take concrete steps to put pressure on Israel, emphasizing the urgency of putting an end to this ongoing genocide.
