NATO summit: Trump evokes an alleged “progress” in Gaza, but remains vague in front of the genocide in progress

While the current genocide in Gaza has already cost the life of more than 56,077 Palestinian dead, mainly civilians, Donald Trump continues to wall in an accomplice passivity. Since his return to the presidency in January 2025, he has continued to provide unconditional support to Israel, refusing any criticism, any pressure and any initiative in favor of a ceasefire.

Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump spoke of an alleged “Progression” On the question of Gaza, without specifying anything. “I think we have progressed compared to Gaza”, he said, before adding evasive: “Because of the attack we led, we will also be able to advance the subject of Gaza. »» Questioned more specifically, he was content to refer to the assertions of a close adviser, Steve Witkoff – a real estate developer and fervent support from the Israeli right -, declaring that his teams were “ready for Gaza”, without giving the slightest explanation.

Since the start of his second term, Trump has not undertaken anything to slow down the Israeli military campaign, or to alleviate the humanitarian sufferings of the Gazaouis. On the contrary, he opposed any conditionality of American military aid, while blocking the rare international resolutions calling for protecting civilians. While several UN rapporteurs now speak openly of an ongoing genocide, an alarming study associated with Harvard University evokes the “Disappearance” probable of 377,000 Palestinians, almost half of whom are children, because of bombing, famine and forced trips.

Faced with this catastrophic assessment, Donald Trump chooses to look away, contenting himself with blurred statements and unfailing diplomatic support for the Benyamin Netanyahu genocidal. For many NGOs and progressive voices, his inaction in the face of the Gaza massacre makes him politically accomplice of a crime against current humanity.
