Netanyahu uses Mamdani in his campaign: the mayor of New York displayed alongside Iranian and Hezbollah leaders

The genocidal Benjamin Netanyahu chose to make Zohran Mamdani a target of his electoral campaign. In Tel Aviv, the mayor of New York appears on a Likud poster alongside Iranian, Turkish and Hezbollah leaders, in a staging intended to present all opponents of the Israeli Prime Minister as belonging to the same “enemy camp”.

This offensive targets Mamdani in particular for his very firm positions on Gaza. The New York elected official had the courage to publicly denounce the genocide in Gaza and did not hesitate to describe Netanyahu as a “war criminal”, while the Israeli Prime Minister is the subject of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Rather than respond substantively to the genocide, the carnage inflicted on the Palestinian population and the methodical annihilation of Gaza, Netanyahu chooses political display and the stigmatization of his detractors. He also released a video repeating Mamdani’s remarks, transforming international criticism of his government into an electoral argument. By thus attacking the mayor of New York, the war criminal Netanyahu seeks to mobilize his electorate by presenting any opposition to his policies as an external threat. A strategy of victimization and confrontation which above all allows him to divert attention from the accusations of genocide weighing on his government and the annihilation of Gaza.
