Ramadan 2025: What are the start and end dates of the fast?

The Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF) announces the dates of the start and end of the month of Ramadan 1446H (see press release below). The holy month will begin on Saturday March 1, 2025following the appearance of the first lunar crescent on February 28 at 3:43 p.m. (Paris time). It will end with Eid al-Fitr on Sunday March 30, after the observation of a new moon on March 29 at 11:58 a.m. and the visibility of the crescent on March 30 at 1:12 a.m. This year, the month of fasting will last 30 days.

Official declaration on the start of the month of Ramadan and the Feast of Al-Fitr 1446H / 2025

According to the most precise scientific data, concerning the month of Ramadan 1446H:

  • The conjunction (new moon) will occur, Inchâ Allah, on Friday February 28, 2025 at 12:45 a.m. GMT (1:45 a.m. Paris time).
  • The conditions required for the observation of the new crescent of Ramadan, throughout the world, will be met, insha Allah, on the same day, from 2:43 p.m. GMT (3:43 p.m. Paris time).

So, on the first day of the month of Ramadan will be, insha Allah:

For the month of Shawwâl:

  • The conjunction (new moon) will occur, Inchâ Allah, on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 10:58 a.m. GMT (11:58 a.m. Paris time).
  • The conditions necessary for the observation of the new Shawwâl crescent, in the world, will be met, insha Allah, the next day, Sunday March 30, from 00:12 GMT (01:12 Paris time).

So, on the first day of the month of Shawwal (day of the feast of Al-Fitr) will be, insha Allah:
