Rony Brauman: “Israel is presented as a democracy, but it is a democracy that tortures, colonizes, practices apartheid and genocide”
Guest of the show C tonightthe former president of Doctors Without Borders, Rony Brauman, strongly criticized the posture of Western leaders in the face of the actions of Israel in Gaza. Reacting to the words of Emmanuel Macron qualifying certain attacks as “unacceptable suicides”, the humanitarian doctor pointed out an indignation with variable geometry.
“Israel is presented as a democracy, but it is a regime that tortures, colonizes, practices apartheid and genocide,” said Brauman. He firmly disputes the democratic status of a state whose practices recall, according to him, the dark hours of South African apartheid:
“I contest in Israel the right to be called a democracy, and the quality of democracy attributed to it, under the conditions it practices. Israel is a revocable government. South Africa in the 1980s also elected a revocable government. This was not enough to make it a democracy. Israel is comparable to South Africa in the 80s, more aggressive, much more violent. This is, at least that you have to try to say. »A rare and without detour of a moral figure of the humanitarian world, which calls for looking at Israeli reality without the fabrics of the dominant story.
