Are Certain Sex Positions Forbidden in Islam?

December 30, 2004

Question

Hi there, I am quite confused as my friend told me that sex is only allowed in one position in Islam. He claimed it is Haraam to have sex in different positions. If he is correct please inform me of which position is permissible. At first i thought he was joking, but he was serious.

Thanks

Answer

Your friend may have been serious but he was quite mistaken. There is nothing in the Shari’ah (i.e. Islamic Law) that prohibits any sexual position that a married couple decide to engage in. The claim is wrong and has absolutely no basis.

I hope I have clarified the issue.

God knows best.
