“Silence kills a second time”: tribute to Aboubakar Cissé and alert cry against Islamophobia
This Sunday, May 11, marches were organized in several French cities to denounce increasing Islamophobia and pay tribute to Aboubakar young Muslim murdered in a Mosque in Gard at the end of April. In Paris, thousands of people paraded behind a large banner: “Stop in Islamophobia! Justice for Aboubakar Cissé ”
“He was killed while he prayed”: a symbol of ignored violence
“Aboubakar was killed while he prayed, in a mosque. It is not a news item, it is an Islamophobic act, “said Sihame Assbague, anti -racist activist and co -founder of the collective against Islamophobia in Europe (CCIE), during Parisian march (Paris Fruits Info, May 11, 2025). This murder, she denounced, “reveals the climate of impunity and hatred legitimized by uninhibited political speeches”. The Muslims collective in France, which co-organized the national mobilization of May 11, recalled in a press release published on its Muslimsenfrance.fr site that “the aggressions against Muslims increased by 30 % between 2022 and 2023” (figures from the 2024 report of the National Consultative Human Rights Commission-CNCDH).
A legitimized Islamophobic climate from above
During gatherings, many signs denounced not only physical assaults but also policies deemed discriminatory against Muslims. Several demonstrators have pointed out the law on “separatism” voted in 2021, described as “liberticide law” by the NGO Human Rights Watch, for having served as a pretext for the closure of dozens of Muslim associations and schools (HRW, Report 2022). “It is not an accident, it is a context,” insisted Yasser Louati, human rights activist and founder of the Justice and Liberties Committee (CJL), interviewed by Beur FM: “Political speeches feed a paranoid vision of the Muslim. When the state targets mosques, when monitoring Muslim children at school, this sends a signal to those who want to take action. »»
Mourning families, youth awakening
The Aboubakar family was present during the march in Paris. Her sister spoke to the megaphone, the trembling voice, in a heavy silence: “Aboubakar was sweet, believing, respectful. He didn’t ask for anything. He was killed for what he was. (TV5monde, May 11, 2025). Across the processions, a committed youth, often from working -class neighborhoods, expressed the same cry of anger. “We grew up with the idea that we were never totally in our place. There, we see that even praying can cost us our lives, ”says in Paris-Luttes.info Nour, a 21-year-old veiled student. “But we won’t be silent. »»
The refusal of forgetting, the call to vigilance
At the end of the Parisian demonstration, the organizers read a joint declaration calling for an in -depth investigation and the recognition of the Islamophobic nature of this murder. To date, neither the Ministry of the Interior nor the Elysée have officially condemned this act or contacted the family, have regretted several stakeholders. The silence of institutions in the face of this tragedy only fueling distrust. As a militant summoned by the anti -capitalistist summarizes: “What happened to Aboubakar is a warning. It is up to us to ensure that it is also a turning point. »»
Do not forget Aboubakar is to refuse that fear wins. It is to recall that no citizen should fear practicing his faith. The fight against Islamophobia is not a community privilege, but a democratic emergency. Because each silence, each abandonment, each word too much in the mouth of a minister becomes a legitimization for the unacceptable.
