Spain provides for a total embargo against Israel and threatens Netanyahu of Persona Non Grata

A major diplomatic change is looming in Spain. According to Mundiario, a worldwide Spanish periodical of opinion and analysis founded in January at La Corognethe Council of Ministers on Tuesday should approve a set of historic sanctions against Israel, in response to the devastating military offensive on Gaza.
The flagship measure, say journalists of Mundiarioconsists of an immediate and exceptional embargo on sales of arms and military equipment for Israel. The decree, they specify, will also prohibit the importation of products from the Israeli defense industry, thus cutting any commercial flow linked to armaments. Still according to Mundiariothe coalition in power, formed by the Socialist Party (PSOE) and Sumar-a radical left platform led by Vice-President Yolanda Díaz-, already discusses a hardening of the device: rupture of diplomatic relations, suspension of bilateral trade and declaration of persona non grata targeting Benjamin Netanyahou as well as several of his ministers, accused of ” genocide, forced famine and ethnic cleaning ”.
This decision, explain analysts of the newspaper, is an extension of the Spanish choice to officially recognize the Palestinian state. It places Madrid at the European avant-garde of a political line of rupture with the Israeli government and accentuates the pressure on its Union partners so that they in turn adopt concrete measures.
Beyond the facts, we must salute the political courage of the Spanish government, which broke with decades of accomplice silence in the face of Israeli crimes. Hope is now that other European countries are following this example, including France, so that the defense of human rights and solidarity with the Palestinian people do not remain simple declarations but result in firm acts.
