The 201-domed mosque in Bangladesh

98 km northwest of Dhaka, the country’s flagship city, its unique Mughal style both impresses and fascinates visitors who flock in ever-increasing numbers to take in the view and photograph it from every angle.

Having become a real tourist attraction in less than ten years, this grandiose mosque, worthy of a place in the Guinness World Records, was able to emerge from the landscape thanks to a local native, Rafiqul Islam. This wealthy owner, in fact, willingly gave up one of his plots of land so that it could be built in 2013.

The spectacle of crowds from all over the world, especially Arabs, who rush every year to discover the splendor of the place and soak it up, delights Rafiqul Islam. My village, located south of Pathalia, was unknown to most people. But now, its fame extends beyond its borders thanks to the mosque. It’s great! ” exclaims one of its most fervent promoters, specifying that its capacity is 30,000 faithful.

The breathtaking 201-domed mosque is expected to soon include an orphanage, a retirement home and a charitable hospital for women. Surrounded by its greenery, it is an inexhaustible source of enchantment for those who approach it closely and admire, among other things, its 140-meter minaret, considered the tallest concrete minaret in the world.

” I designed the online domes based on traditional Islamic structures of Mughal South Asia. Also, inside the mosque, worshippers can recite all the verses of the Quran which have been engraved on brass and installed on the walls “, explained Mrinmoy Adhikary, its very inspired architect.
