The MRAP files a complaint after an assault by a veiled woman and her baby on April 28 in Poissy

The movement against racism and for the friendship between the peoples (MRAP) announced that it had filed a complaint following the aggression of a veiled young woman and her one -year -old child occurred on April 28 in this city of Yvelines. According to known elements, the victim was violently taken to task in public space. Her veil would have been torn off before she and her baby were sprayed with a liquid. Local police services confirmed the opening of an investigation for “Racist violence”.

In a virulent press release, the MRAP denounces “An abject act of rare cowardice, which constitutes a direct attack on human dignity and fundamental freedoms”. The association recalls that “Wearing the veil in public space is an inalienable right, relating to individual freedom and conscience”.

The movement warns against “The attempts to deviate from secularism”saying that this “Never aim to exclude religious expressions from public space, but simply to guarantee state neutrality”.

The MRAP evokes “an alarming series of anti-Muslim acts”, including the recent murder of Aboubakar Cissé in the Mosque of the Grand-Combe (Gard). The association denounces “An uninhibited racism that thrives in an atmosphere of stigma”.

In addition, the MRAP rises against the bill of Michel Savin (LR) aimed at banning religious signs in sports competitions. “This measure clearly targets Muslim women and will hinder access to sport for thousands of practitioners”can be read in the press release. The MRAP finally calls for “A collective mobilization against racism in all its forms” and claims “Firm measurements” public authorities.
