Thomas Guénolé denounces the denial of the violence he suffered in Israel and leaves the i24NEWS set

Thomas Guénolé abruptly left the i24NEWS set after two columnists questioned the reality of the violence he suffered in Israel. A challenge that he describes as “disgusting” and which, according to him, amounts to a “traumatic invalidation”, this mechanism which consists of denying the reality of a trauma experienced. On Twitter, he added that this same denial fuels the Israeli discourse in the face of the suffering of the Palestiniansregularly confronted with the negation of their own experiences.

On the set, Guénolé forcefully recalled the gravity of what he experienced: “ Was it a stunt when I had an Israeli machine gun pointed at my head, not knowing if it was going to fire? “. To a columnist who asks him : “Was it loaded? »he replies: “Yes, obviously it was loaded, you stupid bastard!” Where do you think you are? Wake up ! » He then says he was made break down on the Ashdod quay by an officer of Ben Gvir…, Then “crammed in a cage like animals”. When his interlocutor says to him: “I don’t think so”Guénolé ends the exchange: “If you deny what happened to me, okay, I’ll break it. Hi. It’s just disgusting. » As the reporter tries to hold him back — “No no no Thomas, stay with us” — Guénolé is indignant one last time, believing that this questioning is also “an insult to the hunger strikers”, before leaving the set.
