Trump admits the decline in the pro-Israeli lobby at the congress
In an interview with Daily CallerDonald Trump acknowledged that Washington’s “most powerful” pro-Israeli lobby had lost his influence. “He had total control over the congress. Today, this is no longer the case ”he said, saying to himself ” surprised “ of this evolution.
The former president attributed this decline to the breakthrough of progressive figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and his allies, which he described as “crazy”, but also to the tilting of public opinion. A PEW survey of March 2025 indicates that 53 % of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Israel, against 42 % in 2022. In Republicans under 50, this rate has increased from 35 % to 50 % in three years.
Trump nevertheless wanted to recall that “no one has made Israel more for Israel” than him, boasting of his diplomatic choices – transfer of the American Embassy to Jerusalem, recognition of the annexation of the Golan – and even a recent military operation against Iran carried out under his impetus. While hammering that “people forgot on October 7”, he estimated that Israel “Win the war but loses the battle of public opinion”.
By publicly recognizing the historical and decisive role of the pro-Israeli lobby in Washington, Donald Trump highlights a reality long hidden in the American political debate. But the former president cannot make us forget that his mandate has marked a decisive turning point in the alignment of American policy on Israeli positions: transfer of the embassy to Jerusalem, recognition of Israel’s sovereignty on the Golan, drastic reduction in UNRWA aid.
So many choices which, for many observers and human rights organizations, have strengthened the impunity which Israel benefits today in his war against Gaza, described as “ethnic cleaning”, “genocide” or “crime against humanity” by several NGOs and UN experts. Thus, if Trump recognizes the relative decline of the weight of the pro-Israeli lobby at the Congress, his own political heritage remains inseparable from unfailing support for the current genocide in Gaza.
