Venice Mostra: a silver lion for the film on Gaza “The Voice of Hind Rajab”

On the occasion of the 82nd Mostra of Venice, the film The Voice of Hind Rajab, devoted to the Calvary of the Palestinian little girl killed in Gaza in early 2024, received the silver lion, the second most prestigious distinction of the festival. Hind Rajab, 6 years old, remained a prisoner for hours in a car surrounded by his family’s bodies, imploring in vain for the aid that will never come. The paramedics of the Red Crescent, sent to save it, were also slaughtered by the Israeli army. His martyrdom, which has become a symbol of the current genocide in Gaza, resonates today on the screens of the Mostra through this shock film. Its director, Kaouther Ben Hania, welcomed by a standing ovation, said: “Cinema cannot bring Hind back, but it can preserve its voice … Its history is that of a whole people victim of a genocide inflicted by a criminal Israeli government which acts with impunity. »»
By distinguishing The Voice of Hind RajabThe Venice Mostra sends a strong signal: cinema is not only an art, it can be a weapon against silence and oblivion. This price breaks the wall of indifference which surrounds the current genocide in Gaza, where every day children, women and whole families are destroyed in the most total impunity. By welcoming this film, the jury highlights a truth that a lot of Western chancelleries refuse to appoint: the methodical extermination of a people. More than an artistic recognition, this award resonates as an act of solidarity and resistance to a murderous colonial enterprise.
