While CNews is indignant, Italy makes real diplomacy with Algeria

The chroniclers of CNews, faithful to a neocolonial mentality which does not say its name, obviously have a lot of trouble digesting the recent visit of the Algerian president Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Italy. They perceive it as an offense, an unbearable humiliation, where it is actually only a perfectly banal diplomatic act in international relations.

Their outraged reaction betrays a deep ignorance of contemporary geopolitical issues, as well as tenacious attachment to a logic of power inheritance in the colonial era. Rather than accepting Algeria as a sovereign partner with which it is possible to build a relationship based on mutual respect, they continue to project a condescending and archaic vision, imprint of latent racism.

Meanwhile, Italy adopts a much more pragmatic and lucid approach. Aware of the common interests to be developed with Algiers, Rome has peaceful and fruitful relations with the Algerian government. Better yet: by doing so, she gives a real lesson in diplomacy to a certain French elite stuck in her reflexes of another age. While CNews’ uncultivated chroniclers flourish, their helpless rage only emphasizes their disconnection with the real world.

This contrast highlights a reality that some refuse to admit: Algeria is no longer the vassal fantasized by a nostalgic fringe of colonial power. She is today an essential regional player, courted by lucid partners who know that cooperation prevails over confrontation. Italy, by focusing on a constructive dialogue, demonstrates that in geopolitics, the intelligence of balanced relationships is much better than post-imperial arrogance. France, it continues to pay the price of its strategic blindness – and it is not the cries of set of the editorialists of CNews who will change anything.
