71,000 dead in Gaza recognized by the Israeli army: Caron recalls the slander against those who spoke the truth

Aymeric Caron denounces the genocide in Gaza and recalls the slander against those who relayed the truth about the number of deaths.
WHY READ:
- To understand the late recognition of mortality figures in Gaza.
- To discover Aymeric Caron’s courageous speech on the current situation.
- To reflect on the role of the political class in the face of the humanitarian crisis.
Friday evening in Creil, during the launch of the list Creil Insoumise for the municipal elections, the deputy Aymeric Caron made a rare speech in the current political landscape. A clear word, without detours, without tongue in cheek. A word that names what many still refuse to say: a genocide is underway in Gaza.
“The numbers were true all along”
“The Israeli army finally agreed to recognize yesterday, after almost two and a half years, that the figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health were correct,” Aymeric Caron declared to his supporters. “More than 71,000 deaths in Gaza since October 2023. And yesterday the Israeli army said: yes, these figures are correct. »
These figures, however, have continued to be contested, denied or minimized for months. Those who relayed them were attacked. “ Remember how we were insulted, defamed, slandered,” recalled the deputy. “We were accused of being supporters of terrorism, disinformation, anti-Semites. But we were just telling the truth. »

A human toll still largely underestimated
For Aymeric Caron, even this officially recognized assessment remains below reality. “71,000 dead, including 20,000 children, 180,000 injured, this is a minimal toll”he insisted.
He recalled the existence of thousands of bodies still under the rubble, but also indirect victims. “People who did not die under the bombs, but from hunger, thirst, or lack of care. If we include them, the results are two to three times higher. »
“The truth that has been forbidden to be told despite the evidence and expert reports is that a genocide is underway in Gaza”he said.
For him, this is not an excess of language, but an observation based on facts, figures and the analyzes of numerous specialists in international law.
The courage to speak, when others are silent
This statement contrasts with the attitude of a large part of the political class. A political class which sees, which knows, but which remains silent. Who prefers vague words, empty sentences and awkward silences to clarity.
This cowardice is evident today. The reports exist. Alerts from NGOs, humanitarian organizations and independent experts are piling up. They speak of a terrible toll, of massive destruction of civilians, and, too, of genocide. But many elected officials prefer to look away, out of fear, calculation or comfort. By refusing to name crimes, this political class contributes to their trivialization. By attacking those who speak, she attempts to silence the truth. And by constantly invoking “complexity” to justify inaction, it transforms prudence into moral abandonment. In this context, Aymeric Caron’s words remind us of a simple thing: politics must serve to defend human lives, not to protect careers. Telling the truth is not radicalism. To remain silent in the face of horror, on the other hand, is a mistake. And History, as always, will end up distinguishing those who had the courage to speak from those who chose silence.
